HE Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu - CEO Medicaid Cancer Foundation, First Lady of Kebbi State, Nigeria

Her Excellency Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu speaks to ecancer at the 2019 AORTIC conference in Maputo about the role of African women in oncology.

HE Dr Bagudu explains that despite the fact that African women tend to be the primary carers in the society, this has not translated to their progression into leadership positions within oncology.

HE Dr Bagudu says the session was focused on ways to support and mentor women in oncology so that they can reach leadership positions - and further support female patients. More women involved in clinical trials will help in treating breast and cervical cancer, which are the leading cancers in the continent.

HE Dr Bagudu goes on to discuss her advocacy work with the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in Nigeria.
