International meeting on childhood cancers comes to Dakar

International mobilization to fight against childhood cancer in low and middle income countries

Representatives of 21 countries across the world are meeting in Dakar, Senegal 1-2 July to review progress of the fight against cancer in low- and middle-income countries, which began in 2004 through the UICC and sanofi-aventis ‘My Child Matters’ programme.

During these two days, experiences will be shared by delegates from WHO and other international institutions, hospitals and NGOs from Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, France, Honduras, Italy, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, the Netherlands, Paraguay, the Philippines, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Switzerland, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States.

Highly significant results from the 33 hospitals and NGO partners of the "My Child Matters" initiative will be presented and a “Dakar Manifesto” is expected to be signed at the Presidency of the Republic of Senegal, calling on all stakeholders concerned to improve the outcome of childhood cancer.
