McVie-Veronesi Award: Recognising leaders in improving cancer outcomes in LMICs - call for nominations

Call for Nominations: McVie–Veronesi Award 2026

ecancer is pleased to announce the relaunch of the McVie–Veronesi Award, recognising individuals who have made outstanding contributions to cancer control while working in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

This award honours the legacy of Gordon McVie and Umberto Veronesi by celebrating leaders committed to improving cancer outcomes through collaboration, education, and innovation in resource-constrained settings, while also recognising meaningful contributions to the ecancer community.

Eligibility criteria 

Nominees should:

  • Be actively working in a low or middle-income country
  • Have made significant contributions to cancer control, research, education, or care delivery
  • Have an established record of collaboration or contribution to ecancer (e.g., publications, educational activities, partnerships)
  • Demonstrate leadership and a commitment to reducing cancer disparities

Nomination process

Nominations must include:

  • A brief nomination statement (maximum 500 words) outlining the candidate’s impact and suitability
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV)

Self-nominations are permitted.

Submission details

Nominations should be submitted to maria@ecancer.org by the end of the 8th of May 2026.

Selection process

The recipient will be selected by a committee composed of ecancer leadership and editorial representatives.

Award

The selected recipient will receive:

  • A prize of USD $1,000
  • Recognition through ecancer platforms
  • An invitation to author an editorial in ecancer reflecting on their career, impact, and perspectives on cancer control in LMICs

The award will be presented at the ASCO Annual Meeting 2026, with the option for virtual participation.
